C2 Glovebox Bulb: Needed Picture or Instructions

    Hi there:

I am trying to get my 64 roadster back together after replacing the dash harness. I am just about done but I can't seem to figure out how the spaded courtesy conductor connects to the glovebox switch/lamp. When I took the glovebox apart the lamp was gutted (i.e., no innards and not connected to the prior harness).

I purchased a brand new glovebox socket, switch, bulb and shield assemebly from LI Corvette. The bulb clearly snaps into and twists into the back of the socket/switch assembly. I still can't figure what holds the spaded courtesy conductor into the switch (it appears that the bulb receives its ground from the glovebox frame and its connection with the birdcage). I realize this is probably a very simple connection. Does anyone have a photo of how the spade connects or good instructions.

    Many thanks,

    Peter Cook

Hi, haven't had much luck with the 'repro' sockets. Ended up buying a nice used original that the wire end clip will snap into correctly and hold the socket firmly in the glove box frame. The repros just don't fit snugly and 'wobble' in the housing. Spend your money on a REAL one and eliminate alot of problems!

      Peter,

The replacement switch should have a flat side with a slot for the spade clip right beside the light bulb. The spade clip presses into the slot and becomes one of the contact points for the bulb. Once it's pressed in it locks and is very difficult to remove with breaking the socket. Check the attached photo.

I do agree with the reply from Dan that recommended an original switch. These replacements just seem very flimsy and mine was intermittent. I wound up getting an original Ebay - but they are not cheap - as you know the price for any original parts for these cars is absurd and these switches are no exception.

      Good Luck!

Hi, 'plan B' if you do use the 'repro' wobbly switch, a good way to have it always work is to solder the hot lead to the bulb for constant contact! Forget the slide in end clip, make it solid!

My '65 socket looks different than Dave's. The slot is not as obvious and where his socket is flat in the slot area, my socket has a groove. I'll take a picture if that would help.

            Peter -

The "hook" wire terminal must be inserted into the groove in the plastic switch FIRST, before installing the bulb; you can't install the bulb first and then insert the terminal. Photos below (from Dave Zuberer) show how it goes together.
