67--shims between side of rad support and inner fender?

I'm here at work, and just got a call from a friend who is ready to paint his 67, and wants to know if it is a no-no to have shims between the rad support and the inner fenders. (side of rad support). I didn't have an answer for him, because I'm mostly a solid-axle guy--help me get back to him.
    Thanks!

Yep, they are radiator support shims. Should be OK to be present.

      Mike -

That gap (between the ends of the radiator support and the inner fender) was stuff-shimmed if a gap existed before the bolts were driven; any shims will appear with blackout paint on them, as they were installed in the off-line front clip bonding fixture with the radiator support.

Shims are usually seen in this location, and note the rad support was in place during painting, so not unusual to see some bare glass between the support and the inner fenders depending on the angle of the blackout painter. Also not unusual to see some body color paint under or showing thru the blackout in the lowerfront valence area.
