    Unknown Delcotron Generator

Can anyone out there tell me what the following number generator fits #1100554 looks like it was replaced by #1102849. Found this brand new in original box - took it out of the box to look for info it's a 63 amp with the following number 4h29. The fellow that gave it to me said he's sure it fits some old vettes as well as some other GM products. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Edward -- all my Delco Test Spec books 1956 thru 1978 draw a blank on these two #'s. Googling "generator 1100554" and the same for 1102849 seems to show some Firebird links, as well as signal generator topics. You might have some success there.

GM #1100554 is a SERVICE-only alternator released about 1973 and for MANY 1969+ GM applications, including Corvette. It is a 63 amp, SI series (i.e. internal regulator) alternator. It was discontinued from SERVICE in January, 1976 and replaced by the GM #1102849, a similar SERVICE-only alternator for many 69+ GM applications. The 1102849 was discontinued in July, 1983 and replaced by GM #1103061 and that alternator was discontinued in December, 1983 and replaced by GM #1105360.

Finally, after the manufacture of most SI series alternators by Delco-Remy ended, the 1105360 was replaced by GM #1979865 which is a re-manufactured alternator. It remains available to this day.

Edward I have a #1100554 alternator 63A with a date code 0J28 on my original owner 1970 Corvette.
It was installed on my 70 Corvette about NOV 1970 as a warranty replacement.
I still remember the service manager at the dealership telling me when I went to pick up my car that they could not find a original replacement and installed a higher amp alternator.
The fan pulley is a #3875969AW.
Wish I had known then how much more valuable the original #1100884 alternator would be.

I checked further. It looks like the 1100554 was released sometime in 1970. It was not cataloged for a Corvette application until 1972. Apparently, someone at the dealership figured out that it would work for a Corvette before it was actually cataloged for that application. It's not too hard to figure out. Amp rating and "clocking" account for most of the functional differences in 10SI alternators.

Thanks Joe, I now know more about my 1100554 63 amp vs the original 61 amp original. If my original one had just lasted through the warranty period I would most likely still have it since I have replaced voltage regulators and bearings in 554 unit.
