Wanted: Recommendation for a C2 Alternator Rebuild Service

The alternator on my '65 327 just gave up the ghost, can anyone recommend a rebuild service that they've used and had success with? I'm located in Northern California - a local place would be nice but I'll ship if someone has a great person/place to recommend.

John Pirkle is the best but he is located in Georgia. 706-860-9047. Also, www.johnpirkle.com He did two alternators for me, a starter and a voltage regulator... None better!

Greg if you are looking for only a rebuild service, not restoration, I use a small business shop that has done some work for me. The owner of the facility does most of the work. He really put some labor into removing a seized front bearing on my 85's alternator. New bearings front and rear and his labor was only $20.00 and he let me watch, sure thought it was going to be a lot more.

If you want show quality, send it to John Pirkle.

If you just need an driver alternator, buy a rebuilt one at the auto parts store and put your original (assuming it is original) on the shelf. These things are dirt cheap rebuilt these days.

As stated, depends on what end result you want. John Pirkle will turn out a beautiful restored alternator. On the other hand, prior to a long road trip in my '64, I had the alternator checked out (it was working ok and appears to be original to the car) by a local shop and it was inexpensive for bearings and brushes. They could have media blasted the case with their "secret" process and given it a good cleaning that would have probably removed the barely legible ink on the diodes so I opted to pass on that.

Thanks for al of the feedback. My vette is a nice driver, a previous owner in the early '70s decided to drop a another engine in and proceeded to piece together enough of the surrounding parts to make it run. I'm just now able to go through it and replace the incorrect or offending parts with correct ones where possible - or at least parts of the correct appearance (1965 vs. 66 or 67). I'll give John a call and see what he says though. Has anyone ordered a replacement from Paragon, Zip, MidAmerica, or one of the other big catalogs that they'd recommend?
