Does anyone know the correct shade of blue engine paint that I should use on a 54 6 cylinder. Hopefully it is a can I can pick up locally. Thanks for any help, Bill

Re: 54 blue engine paint
Bill, it's really a turquoise color. Don't let anyone try to tell you it's regular Chevy blue or Corporate Blue.
Back in the day, John Rohner, Jack Reeves and Roger Williams used to sell it it rattle cans.
I had some when I had my 54, but when my stock ran out, I had to have a quart mixed. Went to my local full service auto supply, with a piece of the correct color. I had it scanned, and had a quart mixed in enamel.
To the best of my knowledge, nobody makes it in rattle cans anymore.

Re: 54 blue engine paint
Today, I believe Mary Jo Rohner (John's Daughter) and Grossmueller's are the only businesses "catering" to the 53-55 restorer.
Werner Grossmueller died about 2 years ago, but his business is still up and running.

Re: 54 blue engine paint
Corvette Central sells paint for 53 - 55 in rattle cans. Much closer to the turquoise color that Chuck talks about than the light blue that you see on many engine.
The turquoise color really changes when with varying lighting combinations. Can go from almost light blue to near green.
I used the CC paint a few years ago. I have some engine pics posted here: 54 Pics
I suspect the CC stuff is not dead on. But I have not seen or heard of anything better that is readily obtainable.

Re: 54 blue engine paint
Here's my old 54.
Mine seems a bit more "greenish" than Russ' pic.

I hve done several '54's and am currently doing a '53. I use Grossmuellers engine paint and haave been told by many that the paint is about as close as you can get. They sell in rattle can's too ! Great product. Telephone number is 1-800-258-5362.........- Top
