72 BB Waterpump

Hi, Reading the 4th edition JG for 70-72 it says that the casting number for a 72 waterpump can be either 3992077 or 386100. Does anybody know if there is a way to determine which one it should be or is either acceptable?

Actually, I'm surprised to hear of a 1972 that was originally built with a 386100 waterpump. Do you know what the date on the casting is?

Joe- I presume by what you say you would expect the casting number to be 3992077 for a Nov 71 car?

Joe,

The casting date is April 1972.

The water pump - as told to me by the original owners - was never replaced.
I believe them, it had thin amounts of paint on the front/sides, and surface rust on the back, plus some kind of white chalk/inspection mark on one of the ears.

That's got to be one of the earliest 386100 castings ever made. I've never seen or heard of one with that early a date.

I stand corrected -
my waterpump cast date is C-21-72

and it is a 077 pump.

Somehow I had it in my head it was the other.
