    A348C Air Filter Question

The recent thread on PF-25 oil filters got me looking in my garage. I not only found a couple medium blue PF-25s, but I also found a A348C Air Filter #6484235 in an unopened original AC box. Funny thing, the listing on the bottom lists Caprice, Camaro, Chevelle, Monte Carlo, Buicks, Oldsmobiles, Pontiacs, and Chevrolet Trucks, but no Corvettes.

Do I remember something about metal filter screening differences, whether the outside is diagonal or not?

The AC A348C filter, aka GM #6484235, was used for all 1975-81 Corvettes as well as many other GM applications. As far as screen differences go for this filter, I am unaware of what, if any, differences existed. There were several variations in the screen for the 65-72 AC A212CW filter and those have been discussed here previously and at length. I don't recall discussions regarding the the A348C, though.

      Re: A348C Air Filter Question

The A348C replaced the A329C very late in 1974 production.

The A348C for the 74-75 model years had a horizontal square mesh outer screen with the following silkscreened on the plastisol:

PROTECT YOUR ENGINE REPLACE WITH AC TYPE A348C

In later years (about 1978 I think), they changed the screen to expanded metal.

We see (Best Way To) on the (PROTECT YOUR ENGINE REPLACE WITH AC TYPE A348C) through the 77 model year. I have seen 78 Pace Cars with less than 100 miles with no Best Way but still the square mesh wire.

Here are a couple pictures of one that was given to me by an older neighbor.

            Jim,
I apologize for posting about the wrong air filter, I saw Joe Lucia mention the A212CW filter and didn't fully read the number A348C that you posted.

That is a very good picture of the Best Way logo. With the mesh runing that way it must be an early style.

                Lyle,
Here is one additional photo from the inside. I have no idea what vintage the filter happens to be.

                  Re: A348C Air Filter Question

An original AC Delco A348C air filter has a square mesh metal screen. Whereas, current AC Delco service replacements (made in Mexico) have a diamond mesh metal screen. This information is documented in the NCRS '78-79 Corvette Judging Manual.
