It depends on the judge, but I would say yes. The judge should also look for the manufacturer's logo stamped in.

      Re: Front End Align. Shims

      Hi Ed,
I think I remember that someone recently mentioned that stripping the zinc off the shim is pretty easy. I just can't recall what they suggested using.
I believe using a wire wheel would change the appearance of the exposed surface, so they suggested their method.

Zinc plating can be removed by soaking in lemon juice. Maybe one of our chemists will chime in with more details -- dilution, any hazards, etc.

Lemon juice (citric acid---a weal acid) might be strong enough to do it. If it doesn't, a tablespoon, or so, of muriatic acid (hydrochloric acid---a strong acid) in 8 oz of water ought to do it very quickly.

Here's a photo of a known-original 1969 shim. The area which is seen as black in the photo is the exposed area of the shim. I don't think that too much of the manufacturer's ID mark would be visible with the shims installed on the car assuming that the inner and outer shims were even installed with the ID mark side out.

The black paint is some "overspray" that I am responsible for. I just pointed it out because it clearly shows the area of the shims that is exposed as it was applied with the shims installed in the car. However, it was NOT there originally and won't be there when these shims go back in the car.
