source of 69 white hood release cable

Can anyone recommend a source for a correctly reproduced white hood release cable that runs between the female latches on a 69?

I am so sick and tired of these so called repro parts that these vendors sell when in fact some are not even qualified to be a service replacement. I just went to install my "repop" cable that looks oh so good in the pic as well as in it's plastic bag only to find out that the diameter of the casing is way larger than the original. It is very noticeable compared to my original and the only way to secure it would be to use oversize clamps or bend the cr@p out of my original clamps so that they can go over the casing so neither one is an option that I will take.

How can these guys get away with selling some of this junk? ...I mean the part doesn't even fit! They might as well just take a coat hanger and bend the ends to hook into the latches and sell that because at least that wouldn't require having to ruin original clamps just to hold a junky so called reproduction in place....

Okay I'm done, it's late.... my rants over...just very tired of my growing box of useless "reproduction" parts from "reputable vendors".

If there are no proper repops of this cable does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do to restore mine?

    I feel you pain.

Maybe white vinyl spray dye....the stuff you use to redye vinyl interior parts.

Maybe you could find a black one and re-dye it?

Is you original cable functionally OK. Is it just a cosmetic problem?

Greg, can you go back to your vendor and obtain the (larger) retainer that will fit the cable? Not sure of your build date but if it is a later car you would only need one. As Chuck said, I feel your pain. Always try to use original parts if possible.

        Thanks guys.

About half of the strands are broken on one end so it needs more than just a cosmetic restoration. I'm going to see if I can't somehow replace just the cable and then restore the casing afterwards even though I'm probably going to be better off just replacing the whole cable assy with a good original one. I tend to do things the hard way sometimes.

I thought for a while about using the repop one with different clamps but I really don't want to knowingly use incorrect parts in this restoration unless it's my only option so this cable will be added to my repop junk box.

The black-sheathed "crossover" cable, GM #3966626, is still available from GM. Unfortunately, it is of a different length than the white-sheathed cable and won't work to replace the latter cable. Very late 1969's actually used the black-sheathed cable, but they also used different upper hood latches and a hood with different clasp points for the cable. The white cable-designed hoods have TWO clasp points; the black cable-designed hoods have ONE clasp point.
