    Re: Ignition lock cylinder

The fact that the ignition lock cylinder has TWO holes in it, says it's a service replacement. Factory originals from that era only had one release hole.

You remove the lock cylinder by inserting the key, turning the lock as far as it'll go CCW. Then, insert a paper clip into the release hole and depress the release button. Now the lock will turn CCW beyond its natural stop and lift out of the ignition switch assy.

Later era ignition switch assy's had the release pin in a different position, hence the presense of the second hole (later part was downward compatible with both versions of ignition switch). With your switch, you'll only feel a release pin (spring loaded) through one of the two holes, so you can't make a mistake...the other will be rock hard when you insert the paper clip!

Jack, good explanation. If the one hole is a blank, why was it there Bill.

          Bill-
The hole isn't a blank, below the hole is, and there are two different styles, as Jack explained. Therefore, there are two different holes in the replacement chrome cap.
