New member with some basic questions.

    Hello group,

I'm a new registered member and am excited about my purchase. I just bought a 1969, 350/350, M21, Tuxedo Black, coupe and am looking forward to digging into it.

It's a pretty neat car old being void of any options at all other than the 350HP small block and the 4:11 rear. It's also the 18th unit prior to production ending in 69.

The odometer shows 57,000 and I've been able to identify mostly original components other than the alternator, but i guess it could just as easily be 157,000.

The body and paint is fantastic but I'll be pulling the engine and detailing the chassis and bay.

My question is, what are the best resources for determining correct finishes on plated components and hardware.

I purchased the Assembly manual and NCRS books when I registered.

Is that all I'll need or are there other resources I should be seeking.

    Thanks in advance.

    John:

Suggest the 1969 NCRS Technical Information and Judging Guide (ie "Judging Manual") and the NCRS RESTORER back issues on DVD for 1968/69.

Having a copy of the 1969 AIM and a copy of the 1969 Chevrolet Service Manual will also be a big help to you....but may not provide much infomation on metal finishes.

Attending a few NCRS Chapter and Regional Judging Meets, where you can observe other 1969 original and restored cars, will also provide much information.

        Hi John,
It's good to have you here and I look forward to seeing you on the Board.
A couple other books you may find interesting are:
FACT BOOK OF THE 68-72 STINGRAY, M.F. Dobbins
        1969 STINGRAY GUIDEBOOK, Rick Bizzoco
Both these books have lots of black and white pictures of original cars. (Color would be better but they're still very good.)
The first is available at the NCRS store, and the second at some of the larger venders.
Have fun with your car, it looks like a nice one!
        Regards,
        Alan

Thanks guys, I'm not seeking to have it "flighted" by any means, just get it to as correct a driver as possible. I like my engine bays detailied to the hilt to include correct head markings on bolts, correct finishes and assembly markings.

I've restored several Chevelles and the large amount of specific Assembly plant details with QC marks, overspray, parts tags, color coding etc. were bountifull to reproduce.

I'm hoping there's a good amount of that level of detail in the NCRS books.

Researching is the funnest part of the restoration process but I've been a little spoiled with sites like www.teamchevelle.com .

I'm looking forward to this one though and I'm sure I'll wear you guys out with questions.

          Thanks again

          John McNeely
