    AC Delco parts

Well I am still looking for a 40770 NOS AC logo fuel pump. But I can report that the new Delco pump that I looked at today was made in Mexico, the thinking was that they might still be made in USA by Airtech . Maybe a few years ago but the new ones that I looked at today at my local AC Delco dealer were clearly labeled made in Mexico.

    _________
Can anyone rebuild my original logo fuel pump?

Paragon has original restorered 40770 fuel pumps for sale. Not cheap. They may be able to rebuild yours, or accept your pump as a core to reduce selling price. Call and ask.

Have you used one of the Paragon remanufactured pumps? How reliable would one be in the cars, I mean is this just for trailer queens?

I have not used one of their rebuilt pumps, but I have one sitting in my garage for use later on my car...when the existing (incorrect) one quits. Should be fine. Call then and talk to their tech guy. They are a good company with many excellent products. I would trust what they say. Ask about a warranty??

PS: The rebuilt original is probably USA made and remade...as opposed to the current Delco ones which are manufactured elsewhere.

The photo below shows a box label from a Delco type 40770 fuel pump. Note that this pump is made in USA. Also note that the "casting clock" on the pump casting indicates that this pump was manufactured sometime in 2006 (probably April as denoted by the 4 dotted segments). So, in 2006 at least some of the Delco pumps were being manufactured in the USA. However, a lot of things can happen in 2 years and maybe the manufacturing source has changed by now.

Just about all of the major automotive parts manufacturers have plants in other countries such as Mexico, Canada, China, eastern Europe, India, etc. Increasingly, work is moved to these foreign plants. So, even if Airtex is the current supplier to GM for these pumps, it could easily be that in 2006 they were still making them in the US but as of now, they've shifted production to a plant they may have in Mexico.

Keep in mind that another major supplier to Delco and GM is DELPHI, the FORMER GM parts manufacturing organization. DELPHI does not make mechanical fuel pumps, of course, but they do make many other components for both GM (and other automaker) PRODUCTION requirements as well as Delco and GM SERVICE items. The great majority of DELPHI manufacturing is now or soon will be located in other countries. Understand, though, I am NOT making a political statement here and absolutely don't want to get this discussion off on a "political tangent". I'm just describing "the way it is". If one attempts to purchase a new car with only USA-manufactured components or purchase replacement parts of only USA-manufacture, one is going to find themselves in a real "trick".
