Our primary local rebuilder has two list prices for his services: $109.88 for a small bearing/shaft pump and $129.85 for a big bearing/shaft pump. Typically, SB water pumps have small bearing/shaft configuration while BB pumps use large components.

BUT, the 3991399 changed that. It was the transition pump for SB engines that introduced the ruggedness of the BB water pump construction (big bearing/shaft) AND adopted the big/wide bolt pattern flange for mounting the fan/clutch. So, it qualifies as a 'big' pump in terms of rebuild cost.

Jack, can you tell me what prices you have experienced on pump rebuilds? Also what has been a typical turnaround time you've experienced?

Arthur Gould Rebuilders will turn it around in 2-3 days for $65.00 or so.

I called my engine machinist in Fort Worth today and asked who he'd recommend. He pointed me to Forbes right down the street from him which he said had been in business doing water pumps there since probably the 1940s. I called them and was quoted $69.95 so good to know that sounds like a competitive price.
