    Horns

While doing a little reading on the horns used on Corvette's, I noticed that in 71 the standard used a single horn (excluding alarm). However two horns was an option. I'm having trouble finding an RPO for the optional horn?

    Any help?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Ah, not quite...

Beginning in 1971, you only got one horn (cost reduction?) and that continued as the factory norm until 1974 when option U05 surfaced at $4.00 to give you back the second horn...

Judging guide reflects single horn only for 71-72, no optional horn.

        Hi Kevin,
I remember that class. Ron really knows horns and how to restore them. But, I too, think the 'optional' horn is a goof.

            Hi Kevin,
When I went to the link in your first post the picture reminded me of the Mason Dixon Chapter Meet that Ron's tech session was part of.
It was the spring of 2003 and people were getting ready for the Convention in Hershey, Pa. The day after Ron's session I believe there were 3 1953 cars and a 1953 rolling chassis at the Meet. People were pretty amazed and pleased to see that many together at a Chapter Meet.
            Regards,
            Alan

Neat stuff, Alan! Three 53's at a Chapter Meet doesn't happen to often I bet!

                Hey Guys,
My (Dec. 70) 71 has the dual horns. Can anyone confirm that this is a previous owners tinkering and no way a factory option. The jumper wire from horn to horn does vary slightly from the main horn lead. Confused, Mike.

                  Re: Horns

That's the gut issue of this thread. For '71-73 ALL factory production left with a single horn. So, if your car has dual horns, it was a dealer/owner inspired modifcation...
