where did the burried car go from Tulsa

Dumb question but what ever happened to the rusted out time capsule car in Tulsa. Does anybody know where it has gone. Last that I heard Boyd Coddington was talking about restoring it but that's not going to happen now that he is no longer with us. It's off the Corvette subject but I was curious about this car.

Wasn't that a Plymouth? If so, they probably just re-buried it (like a rock).

Funny you mentioned that. I was just thinking about that whole deal last week. Wondering too what happened to it. Too bad that didn't work out like they planned. It was exciting to watch. There are some neat pictures at the buriedcar.com site.

It's at a facility in NJ - Ultra One and here's link to video about the restoration. Gary....

Thanks for the video. Glad somebody has it and is trying to preserve it. It sure is wasted though. Did you notice how flimsy the trunk lid is. The inner panels are gone !

If the moderators will let me deviate from "Corvette technical" for just one minute, I will tie it back in.

Wilkerson Chevrolet is now long gone (closed), and D.B. Wilkerson passed away quite some time back. His Chevy dealership, along with Bill White Chevrolet (also now gone) were the only dealers to have brand new Corvettes in stock during the late 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s in our hometown. I spent many a Saturday as a teenager, sitting in their showrooms, lovingly caressing the lines of shark bodied Corvettes.
So, my love of old cars, in particular, vintage Corvettes, was partially fostered from the storied "buried car" in Tulsa, Oklahoma.Ridge.

The guy that actually received the car was the closest living relative of the real winner who has been long deceased. He lives in Frederick, Maryland. PT

Wow what a terrible error that was. They could have left it at my house in the shed with a cover on it. Times like this makes me think that fibre glass is a great product. I lost 50 bucks the day it was unearthed, my guess on the condition was way off. Thanks Gary for the video clip your a legend.

Re: where did the burried car go from Tulsa

Lesson to be learned from this: if you're going to bury a car in a time capsule, it better be done in a HERMETICALLY SEALED VAULT and not an ordinary, concrete utility vault. Why someone didn't have that figured out when they "interred" this car, I'll never know. I mean, this is BASIC stuff.

I expect the reason that the Plymouth was chosen was because of its exaggerated "super fins". It was probably the most prominent example of that feature which was a "trend setter" of the day. So, it probably seemed like a "natural" for a time capsule.
