I never knew Captain Kirk drove a vette in his youth! Looks like a 65. Someone please tell me this was done with special effects and they didn't REALLY drive it off a cliff!

Re: James T. Kirk drives a C2?
The shot from vantage point below edge of cliff, looking upwards, seems to show '65 wheel cover (driver side front), but in another, when he grabs for the shifter shows the seat belt retainer clips with square hole, per 1966 MY.- Top

Good eye Wayne! I'm guessing 65 based on wheel covers and what appears to be the 63-65 style rear deck emblem. Hard to tell though. Seat belt retainer is the later 66 style, but could be service replacement.- Top

As a hardcore Trekkie (not Trekker), I always knew The American Captain/Admiral/Captain (yeah I know, The Shat's from Canada, but Kirk's from Iowa) had to drive a Corvette in his youth. He picked the right color, but it shoulda been a C3 ... anyway, still pretty damn cool!- Top

How did he get the top down so quickly? In opening frame it's up, then secnds later it's down. I know, I know, it's what I tell my kids, it's only a movie. Brawley- Top

Remember, Star Trek first aired in September 1966.
There is already speculation among Trekkers and Trekkies that the use of a 1966 Corvette is tied to the first airing of the original series.
And I believe the top was unlatched and left the car at speed, it was not "let down".- Top
