    Red-stripe Tires Early 69

In the TIMJG page 34 it states "White or red-stripe tires were Goodyear Speedway Wide Tread." Next paragraph it outlines where stripes both on a Goodyear and Firestone are positioned from the rim.

I have the opportunity to obtain an original firestone red-stripe tire with correct dated wheel. Was the Firestone original equipment? I plan to purchased Kelsy repo Goodyears for the car and use the Firestone for the spare. Is this a good approach to obtain the most possible points in judging?

If the tire is a Coker reproduction Firestone (it will say SUP-R-BELT on the sidewall) it will receive a deduction, as these were not the OEM style Firestone used on Corvettes. The original Firestones say NYLON NF CORD on the sidewall. There are other differences as well, but this sidewall lettering is the easiest to discern.

Believe it or not the NF stands for Non Flattening, and if you believe that I have a bridge to sell you.

Unless you can find original Firestone tires your least point deduction for a reproduction tire will be for Goodyears.

NOT OEM for Corvette, and will result in a deduction. I think those went on Monte Carlo or something like that.

NYLON NF CORD is the only OEM material.

The reason we go to great lengths in the TIM&JG to describe the OEM tires is to answer these kinds of questions, and to provide information to the judge. We take pains to describe the correct item and deliberately avoid describing any other items (like reproductions) to avoid confusion.
