Need some windshield advice for my 69

I've deceided to go with a local supplier for my windshield because I just can't justify $400-$500 US dollars plus shipping to Canada for a few points when I can get a local PPG one for about $250 CDN dollars.

With that in mind is there any particular brand of windshield that is closer than others to what an original 69 windshield was like? I assume that it should be tinted because the rest of the glass is tinted but I'm not sure how much tint or what color the tint should be.

The Judging Reference Manual states a 25% deduct for OEM brand with correct tinting so that's what I'm shooting for. So to get me started in the right direction, what was the OEM brand?

LOF was the OEM for the glass. The only way I know to get their logo on the glass is to buy a reproduction. Pilkington reproduces LOF glass for the restoration market.

    Check out http://www.pilkington.com/the+americ...ns/default.htm

If the side glass is tinted the windshield should be as well. The tinting won't be 100% correct in the corners on the reproduction but I know of no alternative.

I have a PPG and during judging took a 50%, 10 point hit on originality and zero deduct for condition. So it comes to $50+/point, somewhat expensive.

On another thought I expected the deduct to be 100% for originality as it is not original therefore not allowing for any condition points.

Thanks for that link John, I'll give them a call and see what their prices are like and if they have anybody close to me.

Erv, windshields are a standard deduct item and 50% is what it calls for for non OEM service replacement like PPG. You need at least 10% of the originality points to be eligable for condition points so since you had that you also got judged for condition.

Since I probably won't be able to get LOF locally I'll be in the same boat as you and get 20 of the 30 possible points for the windshield.
