C1 oil cap question

I showed in a early post how to tell a original cap from repro,in the original OIL word the O touches the straight de-tent line while the repro's dont.I've seen original oil caps where the bottom ether has round holes or long holes (mine has the long holes) both are original but I think they were supplied by different supplier's to GM. Your thoughts .

i've got three originals and a repo in front of me. as roy stated, the O in Oil nearly touches the depression in the original and its a good 1/8" from the depression in the repo. all three of the originals have the long breathing holes as does the repo. the rivit of the repo isn't even close to the ritets in the originals. mike

Not to worry I dont think it's mentioned in the JM and you just have to stop reading my trivia stuff.

the upcoming 56-7 JG will discuss the oil caps.originals can be found in junkyards-55 to 57 (and psossibly beyond) passenger cars.mike

When judging oil caps you can quickly determine if a cap is the real deal or not just by looking at the rivet. In some cases though look at the ritet. There appear to be at least two suppliers of the early C1 oil caps. One of the repros has a very sharp radius and the other has a radius on the corner about the same as an original.
By the way save $$$ on phone bill and quit calling old JD here for original caps as they are long gone. Meanwhile in SW corner of PA good luck on finding a junkyard with 55 to 57 stuff in it Dr. Mike. Maybe in Dr. Mikes hillbilly state though.

I've called around and there just aren't any junk yards with 50's cars around here I even called some junk yards in michigan and asked if they had 50's cars just out of curiosity and the answer was no... For the life of me I don't know where folks get these old parts...

You might find them in classic Chevy clubs 55-57 around the country
