    Re: set back and enjoy

Once a year, our club gets to spend the day with one of these at the Pima Air Museum. It is ALWAYS an honor!

Very well done. It is a pleasure to see that at least some of our tax dollars were spent wisely to produce this magnificent plane.

As a retired Air Force Aircraft Maintenance Officer, SR-71 is only aircraft that has ever impressed me or should I say awed me and I have been around many. Got a chance to sit in one once, on ground of course, and was thrilled beyond belief as very few people allowed to do so. I also saw one go full afterburner on straight up climb after take off and was once again in total awe of the technology involved. To bad they retired them, thanks bean counters, since satelites can't do everything. My hat is off to all the outstanding men and women who worked on them and the few who were privledged to fly them.

How cool - from an old, jealous aviator.

                    Thanks for sharing.

                      Re: set back and enjoy

One of the more amazing aspects of the SR-71 was that it was designed entirely with slide rules and mechanical calculators - no digital computers.

We do all aerodynamic design on supercomputers these days.
