    Trace dealership & ownership history

Am trying to locate selling dealer and missing ownership for my 1957
    VIN: E57S104499
    Here is what I know:
Front cover of my original Operators Manual has "Hall Chevrolet June 21, 1957" written in ball point pen on the front cover. Only two Hall Chevrolet I can locate are in IN ant TN. I'm pretty sure mine was purchased on Long Island but it could have been elsewhere in the northeast.

    Specific ownership history:
Allen C. Schery – early 1970’s to 6/10/91; 6 Robin Hood Drive, East Islip, NY 11730.
Alan M. Blay – owned for short time; 1512 Bellmore Avenue, Bellmore, Bellmore, NY 11710, 516-223-4263/679-001; 2066A Lakeview Avenue, Bellmore, NY 11710, 516 /679-5565.
    Howard M. Charyn - owned early 90’s to 5/31/95; 778 Oak Place, East Meadow, NY 11554, 516/486-5166.
    Steven Bernardini – owned 5/31/95 to 4/11/07; 312 Bay Avenue, Huntington Bay, NY 11743; 631/424-4643, 516/319-0050 (cell).
“Jack” John U. Farley, Jr. – owned since 4/11/07.

I have contacted Al Grenning of CCAS but he only deals in ownership history 1963-1972. Also spoke to Brad Petriko of Triple A Enterprises who went out of his way to help trace the dealership (his hobby/business is window sticker repros) but could only find Hall Chevrolet in IN and TN that I already knew about.

The last suggestion I had was to contact the local libraries in the towns where I think the dealership might be located and ask the librarian to look up Yellow Pages for 1957 auto dealers. That is a work in progress.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Jack Farley - proud but frustrated owner of 1957 VINE57S104499 283/270.

Alan Blay is an NCRS member, and has written stories for The Restorer. I may have contact information for him at home. He may even be a member of this forum. Click "members list" on the darker colored line above.

Edit add: I looked; Alan is not a member of this board. I'll see if I have contact information for him at home. At best it will be a couple of years old.

A quick look on the internet shows that there are currently 10 Chevy dealerships on Long Island. Perhaps you could call them and inquire about any company name changes that might have occurred over the years.

Have you contacted Allen Schery to ask where he purchased the car? He is listed on Intellius as a 60 year old still living in the same area.

There are subscription sites for newspaper archives that are searchable by date and location. It might be tedious but might yield results.
Good luck. Please recontact me if you have no luck. Bill Gould

Re: Trace dealership & ownership history

For what it's worth; there was also a very well known "Hall Chevrolet" in Milwaukee, WI in the late 50's and early 60's. Their actual location may have been in West Allis, WI. They were very involved in racing and the handling of Chevrolet Performance Parts. They sponsored several race cars (mostly drags) at the Union Grove "Great Lakes" drag strip, including Mike Marinoff's blown 55 Chevy and later Willeys coupe. A number of their group also raced Corvettes in and around SE Wisconsin, Northern Illinois.

For what it's worth, I live on Long Island and don't ever recall hearing about a Hall Chevrolet.

          Regards,

Re: Trace dealership & ownership history

Thanks for all your help. I spoke to Alan Blay and got some good ownership history but no luck on tracking down original dearler as yet. Not being able to find a phone number, I wrote to Allen Schery at his East Islip address. Hopefully I will hear back in the next week or so. Meanwhile, I have it on my ToDo list to call the current Chevy dealers on L.I. and see if any of them remember Hall Chevrolet.
So, still a work in progress....

This may be the answer to your prayers. Spoke to a good friend of mine who is retired from GM and was a regional guy for them in the NE. He said it may be "Hull Chevrolet" in Southampton, NY! I just Googled them and they still exist. Here is their info:

I was a Chevrolet field rep on Long Island until a month ago (now in N.J) and can assure you with utmost certainty that Hull Chevrolet Olds is not a Chevrolet dealer on Long Island in Southhampton, NY. Maybe they are a used car dealer.
The Chevrolet dealer in Southhampton, NY is Buzz Chew Chevrolet and they have been there for years.

Hall-Shop Chevrolet in Highland, Md. is one more. Went out of business in the 80s.

The original post was regarding a 1957 model and stated
"Hall Chevrolet June 21, 1957" written in ball point pen on the front cover. Only two Hall Chevrolet I can locate are in IN ant TN. I'm pretty sure mine was purchased on Long Island but it could have been elsewhere in the northeast." This carr has long LI ownership

"Hall" was written in ballpoint not printed; therefore it could be Hull. My friend was with GM in 1957 and up. You are correct regarding current Chevrolet dealership status on LI but in 1957 there was a Hull Chevrolet in Southampton, LI, NY. In fact, if you Google "Hull Chevrolet" you wil find this link to it: http://www.autotropolis.com/car.deal...rolet-Olds.htm.

If you are saying it does not exist, you are correct in that it no longer exists; however, if you are saying it never existed, you are mistaken.

Let's do our best to help each other and be respectful.

The web link appears to misrepresent that they are a current dealer open for business. I was just trying to clear that up. No disrespect intended at all...cheers!!
