    1965 coil springs

Could anyone tell me which end of the coil goes in the lower control arm. Is it the coil end that has many coils in a smaller space or the end with greater distances between the coils. Also is there any special orientation in the control arms to ensure proper ride height before releasing the spring compressor?

Closely spaced coils up (from Shop Manual).

If you are installing a GM spring, both coil ends will terminate a "pocket" in each of the upper and lower control arms. I believe you will see a weep hole at that location, and you can use this as an indicator if the coil end is correctly positioned.

The end of the top of the spring should be positioned 3/8" from the formed stop in the frame pocket, as noted in the Assembly Manual; the hole in the recess in the lower control arm is for water drainage.
