Jack Handle Grommet - where does is go?

    Hi again.
When having my '77 judged a couple of weeks ago, I was told that there was "some rubber cap" missing on the jack/handle ("Jack, handle & hold down spring"). Now, I found some "Jack Handle Grommet" and ordered it.
Where does it go and what is its purpose (safeguard that the aluminum wheels don't get scratched?)?
    Thanks for your input.

It goes around the wrench part of the lug wrench. Purpose is to prevent the wrench and jack rattling when stowed in the compartment. The grommet goes back way before the aluminum wheels, so no protection of those was intended -- although if it serves that purpose so much the better.
