I have an orginal spare tire (General Jet Air II) for my car. My problem is that they do not reproduce this tire and my car production date is too early for goldline and too late for blackwall. (December '64 build date). Which whitewall tire/brand will I need for judging purposes?

Re: Correct tires for '65
First of all I think the brand on the spare can be different than what's on the car. I know most judges really liked to see original non dot tires, at least when I had one for a spare as I was going thru the judging process. As far as tires on the car you could always go with Firestone DeLuxe Champion (which is what I had on my car, just sold the bias ply now that judging is done ) I think that the following tire is still available in bias plys BF Goodrich Silvertowns. In reading the JM it states that two cars assembled in Jan 65 are known to have come with blackwalls, and they are considered acceptable through January of 65. It is also not clear when Goldlines started. Anyway you do have a selection of tires you can use.- Top

Probably the most correct would be the goodyears from Kelsey, I believe from the original tooling or at least from the original drawings. For judging, an original non matching spare is given full originality credit.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: Correct tires for '65
Two comments:
(1) NCRS allows the spare tire to deviate from the mounted wheels, even though this was NOT factory policy, in order to preserve factory original tires.
(2) Some MISTAKENLY read the option list thinking the P91, Blackwall Tire, was the ONLY form of blackwall tire offered. UNTRUE! The standard tire (no option code) was a blackwall with rayon construction. The short-lived, P91 tire, was also a blackwall but with nylon construction. Don't confuse the two!- Top
