On my 72 I adjusted the seat bumpers so the seat does not lean back as far. I was more comfortable but when I went to press te seat relase button it would not depress or release the seat. After taking it apart and re-adjusting the seat further back to its origional position it works fine so I imagine that there was simply too much tension on the seat release strap. Is there an adjustment on the seat release that will allow me to adjust the seat bumpers and straighten the seat back??

Re: C3 seat back release problem
The glove box items originally contained a set of washers (for under the seat bumpers) and several plates (of the same thickness as the washers) for under the seat back latching mechanism -- all in a cloth bag with a drawstring. The washers and plates will keep the bumpers and latching mechanism in the same plane so that they will function as designed while adjusting the angle of the seat back. If you no longer have these items, contact Sal Carbone through the "members list" radio button at the top of the page. I don't know about 1972, but I believe for 1970 the installation of these items is covered in the owner's manual.Terry- Top

Re: C3 seat back release problem
The car should have come with 4 shim plates and 8 washers as loose parts to use to adjust the seat backs. Many cars seem to lose these parts over the years however. Originals are somewhat hard to find but repros are available. The shims and washers both are installed on the seat bottoms - the washers under the large bolts the seat back bumpers rest on and the shims under the bolts holding the seat back release piece at the lower end. Parts are shown in the AIM.- Top
