    1969 PV questions

I would appreciate clariication around the following:
    1. PV manual states tilt steering has 7 positions. Mine has 6. Possible error in manual?
    2. PV manual states that radio illumination does not come on with light switch, but rather when the radio is turned on. Is this correct function? If so, what is the fix for radio light that comes on with light switch?
    3. My passenger door when opened does not illuminate Door ajar light. It does illuminate the courtesy lights. Driver door illuminates both. Idea on the cause or fix for this condition
    Thanks very much.

    Hank,
    1. You are right about the tilt column having just 6 positions. I have sent that comment on to the re-write team and I suspect it will be corrected.
    2. The manual should be correct as it relates to the radio light. From doing my past PV's I do not recall that being as issue. As to how to fix it others may have some ideas.
    3. The door ajar switch is a different switch than the courtesy light switch. Seems like you have a defective ajar switch on the passenger side.
Good Luck with your PV !!!!!!!!!

Hank - the PV manual for 68-72 states on page 28 that the radio light should not come on until the parking lights/headlights are on AND the radio is turned on, and also that this light should come on even if the ignition switch is NOT on (and thus the radio is not on). This is how my 70 works, and I passed PV with it this way.
Your radio may be working correctly IF the light only comes on when you turn on the radio and lights.
On the door adjar switch, it works by connecting two wires with the door open, and disconnecting them through a spring mechanism when the door is closed. I know because I failed a PV with one of these.
Some times one wire gets misplaced and will not make a connection as it should, and it's relatively easy to remove the switch to see if this is the problem. Good Luck

The door ajar switch for the passenger side may just need to be cleaned. The lower rear of the door area is the switch for the door ajar.

          Re: 1969 PV questions

Does the jam switch at the rear operated the door ajar, or the one at the front that operates the courtesy lights? thanks

Front switch operates the courtesy lights, rear switch establishes door open/closed for door ajar + anti-theft alarm.

Both switches are 'self-adjusting' meaning the center plunger shaft makes an interference fit through the hex mounting nut allowing the switch plunger to move in/out in relation to the mounting nut and 'learn' the specific geometry of your door gap.

The factory method was to install switches with the pluger at max (longest plunger) and slam the door shut. The door would contact the switch plunger and push it back to the 'correct' position for that particular door gap.

Old original switches that've been removed and/or doors that've been re-hung may need to be reset to re-learn the specific geometry of your door's gap...

              Re: 1969 PV questions

Thanks a lot! I am embarrassed. Cleaning the switch contacts was all that was required.

Pat, re radio illumination, PV manual seems to indicate different characteristics for a 69 versus a 70-72. What do you think?

As I read it all 68-72 radios should illuminate with parking lights/headlights on and radio turned on. But you're right, it also does indicate that "for 70-72" this remains true even with the ignition switch off, which implies to me that 68-69 may be different in that respect.
If you have any doubts about any particular item I would also encourage you to ask questions of your Team Leader about what he expects at PV. I think he'll be happy to tell you, and his opinion is the only one that really matters.
