73 numbers on underside of hood
I am wondering if the following numbers on the under side of the hood have any significance. Located at the area where the air cleaner gasket comes in contact with the hood are the following: stock #4558 and below that is -20 B.M. All are written in chalk. Obviously the -20 refers to antifreeze. Are these factory or dealer written? Just a minor point of interest. thanks tom

More than likely it was dealer done.
I have similar markings on my radiator shroud in yellow crayon.

I would agree that it was probably dealer done. The stock number was the dealer inventory #. It was marked this way to see service history of this unit when it returned to the service department. The -20 is the coolant check. The B.M. is probably the initials of the servicing technician.
I can't say all of this is for certain, but I've worked in a GM dealership for 25 years and can say I've seen this done quite often.Tom Hendricks
