    *$#^** Stoplight Switch

Is it just my car or have any of you guys also had problems with your stoplight switch on the C2s?

My problem is to do with the stop pin, the attachment that contacts the switch plunger. It seems to be too high and located too far clockwise - the results is that when you release the parking brake, it will hit the plunger on its side and bend it. Is there a way to adjust or will I have to engineer a bubba fix?

    Bud.

I have not been able to get mine to work properly yet. After buying a 100.00 switch I have yet to get it right. The AIM isnt very clear on this. Maybe somebody has a picture or installation direction they can post for us.

Couldn't be $100!! Oh, I see now, I've said 'Stoplight' in the title. It's the PARKING brake swith. Sorry for the confusion.

I can tell you the 63 emergency stop light pin has a bevel to start contact with the switch. I don't know off hand what 64 looks like.

The 64 version is different. It has a 3/8 inch square 'bolt' that depresses the plunger in the switch. The automatic rotation of the parking brake handle is more than the 3/8 inch but really the problem is that it contacts the switch too early. It is also a tad too high.

It would help if I could adjust the switch backward a little. But I don't know how to remove the switch, as the plunger seems to be too large for the nut on the switch although the switch is put in from the back. How does that work?

            Bud,

I am not sure about 1964 but the switch on 63 has a brass piece that keeps the plunger from being bent when making contact with the pin. Could your 64 switch be missing that part or can the switch be turned 180* if that will make any difference. Do you think someone may have replaced the switch with a incorrect part?

If you can post a picture I sure we can help.

The slot faces up, ie the square metal control on shaft facing up.

                Re: *$#^** Stoplight Switch

Thanks Alan, that picture shows my problem. My switch is slightly longer, meaning the stop pin makes contact too early, hitting the plunger more on the side than on the face. My stop pin is also placed higher in relation to the plunger. Yours, on the otherhand, is square on.

I've jigged a guide to make mine work, in the mean time, I'll be looking for a correct switch.

Thanks to all and a Merry Christmas!

                Bud.

                  Bud,

Sounds like somebody may have sold you a door switch instead of a parking brake switch. The door switch has much finner threads and a slightly different plunger.

It certainly is no $100.00 item so I would suggest getting a new switch as the price is in the $10.00 range.

Sometimes it helps to angle the plunger on the shaft a bit so it will not catch the switch before it bottoms out. Sometimes it catches the switch plunger and bends it some. Enough to destroy!

The 63 parking switch is entirely different from the 64-66 switch assembly. As most 63 things are anyway!
