    Oil Filters

Here are some pictures of the old and new PF25 & PF29. The new on the left and the old on the right. They are somewhat different. Thanks Jeff.

I'm not surprised that there are some differences between the originals and the reproductions (i.e. the "new" filters). Rather than reproducing the entire original filter from scratch, I believe that what's done is that some currently manufactured filter is used as the "core" for the new filter and it's then silk-screened to simulate the original. However, since there may be no currently manufactured filter that would work for the application AND be identical to the original with respect to other facets of configuration, the reproductions exhibit differences in certain areas.

One thing I will note, though: the "off-white" coloring of the reproduction PF-25 is VERY close to some NOS originals I have in the collection. While some originals were the more-or-less "bright white", others were the more-or-less "cream colored white" seen here.

Thanks for the info Joe. Are they still planning on the judging manual change for the PF29 for 68's and early 69's? By the way, are you kin to the Ray Lucia on that money talk show, he wrote that Buckets of Money book? I bet his buckets are not so full right now.

As far as I know, there is going to be a change in the 68-69 JG with respect to the oil filter usage.

I'm no relation to Ray Lucia that I know of. Of course, it's always possible that somewhere way back there's a family connection. It might even go back to a connection in Italy. Might take a DNA test to determine if there's a connection, though.

All white PF25's installed on new Corvettes from mid '69 through '74 had an unpainted lockseam bead. The shell was formed from pre-painted roll stock and then assembled resulting in a bright metal lockseam.

The next version of the TIM & JG will reflect the usage of the PF 29. But do not ask when it will be out. Not this year!
