    66 Headlight Retaining Bezel

Did the headlight bulb retaining bezel and cup use two screws to hold the headlight in or three? I have examples of both.

On another topic as I slowly creep towards a complete car. Was the Z bar where the VIN is riveted flat or semi gloss black on a car with a black interior. Mine looked flat black. Thanks

    Greg -

I've only seen each headlamp assembly attached via two special adjusting screws and one spring to the rotating bucket.

Typically the bar was green zinc chromate, hit with a localized spray of flat blackout paint in the vertical exposed face area below the glove box to hide the ugly green color, although this varied widely and wasn't consistent - sometimes it was overspray of body or interior color.

I meant the headlight bumlb not the assy. There is a stainless ring that holds the bulb in.

      Thanks for the Zbar info.

        Greg,

The cups and stainless headlamp retainer rings for your 66 should have three tabs and use three screws. Earlier cars, 58 through 63, had only two.

The Z bar treatment was not totally consistent as John states. But, there were normal treatments, and they were different between ST. Louis and AOS. The St. Louis bar was green zinc, then painted on the outer end with body color as overspray, then blacked all along the front face. AOS did little if any blackout on the bar, except some black on the verticle part of the bar near the center dash console. So AOS will mostly be green on the face, with some body color on the end.
