    Re: What is this Muncie 4spd.???

    Justin,

    3885010 Case made from 1966-1967

    3857584 Tailhousing made from 1965-1970

    P0607 is a Muncie made June the 7th day

    From those numbers it was made in 1966 the 7th day of June because production codes from 63-66 started with a P and have 4 numbers. Production codes from 67-74 start with a P and as example use P8C06 that would be 1968, March, 6th day.

      To add to what Joe said, look at the input shaft, it should have one or two rings in the area of the splines. One ring indicates a close ratio (M-21) box and two rings indicates a wide ratio (M-20) box.

          Justin,

          Thanks Bill, I never thought of that. Also, if it has no rings and has a drain plug it's a terrible piece of history so package it up and send it to me at once for proper disposal.

            OK Joe, I'll bite. Let's assume I had a stash of transmissions with no ring but with a drain plug and I sent one to you (a belated Christmas gift ), what transmission is it that you would receive?
            Best regards,

              Charlie,

              Well, I just wanted the M-22 to melt down with the rest of the cans. Just doing the guy a favor!

                The tag probably reads 3870354 (the first digit gets mangled by the bolt). This is a further clue that the trans was a wide ratio (2 rings) installed in a car with the low numerical rear end ratios (3.08, 3.36, 3.55). If '66 Corvette, could have been base engine, L79, or L36.

                Now if there's a VIN derivative stamped somewhere on the edge of the maincase (opposite P0607, or on top edges ?) we could narrow it down even more.

                  Joe;

                  If someone was misreading what they had, they might just send you an early Cast Iron BW T-10. They had drain plugs.

                    If they send one, I certainly hope they send a 57 T-10. That would make my day. Wonder if it will melt down with the aluminum cans?????? Nah!

                      If all you're lookin for is scrap, I may have my old 57 T-10 case laying around yet. I kinda broke it when I dropped out a drive shaft on my 57 post sedan at 100 mph+ up at Great Lakes Dragway. All the mounting ears broke off, and my starter was hanging by the wires (still worked).
