Surprise! XKE & Vette Common Parts

Recently I brought up the commonality between T-Bird and C1 Vette parts. Now check out this eBay sale for a Jaguar XKE washer jar bracket and you'll see that it looks very familiar.

    Troy,

Yes Jaguar used several GM parts, especially on the V12 engine used in the Series 3 E-Types (72-74).

The A6 compressor for the AC system was GM(Fridgidaire). As well as the power steering pump, which just used a different fill cap and pulley.....Pics from a few years ago during a engine bay cleanup on or 72. Got carried away as usual.

Unfortunately they didn't use GM electrical systems. Lucas electrical designs were prone to problems. Basically the connection methods and materials were poor quality, and corrosion is a constant headache.

After completion....took about 4 years. Actually rebuilt the engine from scratch after a dropped valve seat. That started it all....then everything by the book. Jag never did AIM's so it was a challenge. 2nd place in SE Regionals last year, 3rd in nationals.

Here is an AC English made smog valve used on the Jag.
This exact part was used on the 67 Corvette.

Hmmm, I think the smog pump was a Delco unit. Not sure if used on Corvette but this one is on the '72 E. Look familiar?

E's also used the AC bowl type fuel(petrol) filter in the trunk(boot). It was made in England though.

As the story goes, all the British car manufacturers gathered at the bed side of Mr. Lucas to hear his final words, which were:

Now the big Question. Does the big cat leak oil. Or should I say how much does it leak.
I could never work out why in the showrooms at our local Jag dealer ship they had drip trays under the new cars.
Many, many years ago I owned a brand new series 1 Mazda RX7. I pulled up at the lights one day and a very nice old E type was sitting next to me that Panama yellow colour. Most of the people who drive these cars are not hot rodders so I never thought a race would be called for. The lights turned green and the Jag was off like the clappers, I managed to jump on the pedal early enough and away we went neck and neck. The the little ****le motor never made much torque so flat changing was not a problem, that made up for the crappy reaction time.
But the cat was going like a B/B chev. I couldn't believe this antique going so quick, I was determined to beat the V12 around 110 mph we were still neck and neck when I got the worst case of cramp in the hamstring I've ever had. I had to let him have victory I was completely disgusted in myself. I felt like cutting my leg off.
But thinking about it now I would of got beaten because the RX7 was only good for about 120 mph back then and the jag would of kicked my butt after another 10 mph. God that was fun and even more fun If I had wipped him.

If a Jaguar engine doesn't leak oil, it means there's no oil in it.

Interesting stories section about XKE's; last year when I was leaving a cruise-in at Old Town in Kissimmee, FL, an XKE V12 that was also leaving passed through the toll booth on the on ramp to the 417 and stomped it in front of me. He did a coin box pass (standing start) and I was in another E-Pass lane (rolling start). He blew so much smoke in my face in an obvious attempt to beat me up the ramp that, out of shear defense and concern for not having my clean Vette get an oil bath, I too put my foot in it and wound on past him before the lane merge. I didn't wait around to see if he wanted to try and top me out. He didn't, so I assumed he ran out of oil or his ignition crapped out.

                              Stu,

It wasn't me! If it was a cold night in February, we were there at the Sat night cruise at Old Town too with the V12. But we ended up staying at the Seralago(sp?) as it was too late to head home and didn't trust the Lucas electrics at night.

Besides......I'd never do that to a fellow Corvette guy.
