    Tire Question

    I PLAN ON PURCHASING TIRES FOR MY 72 SM. BLOCK , MY QUESTION IS I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING WHICH TIRE IS CORRECT (BLACK, WHITE WALL, R. W. LETTERS etc.) I LIKE THE WHITE LETTERS TIRES WHEN I HAVE JUDGED WILL THERE BE A PROBLEM WITH WITHOUT DOCU.
    New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.

      No, from a judging perspective, any available tire is considered acceptable for judging. In the case of an original spare, it does not have to match the road tires to obtain full credit.

        There is no judging field requirement to document how your car was equiped when new so you are free to do whatever you want as long as it is typical factory correct. Raised white letter tires are in fact factory correct for your 72. You will need to purchase the Goodyear RWL's available from Kelsey Tire. They are the only correct RWL nylon cord tire available and are excellent reproductions.
        That is the tire that was on my 71 at the Chapter judging school. Some of the students initially thought they were originals.

          Dave thanks for the reply, you answered the question in the detail I needed. I was at the judging school in nov. and was part of the team learning on your car. your 71 is truely a rare car. Thanks Ed
