Re: 67 "DC" master cylinder casting dates

    Hi Bill,
Looked at the original master cylinder from #2232. It is a #509 casting with the bleeder screws above the line connections. It has the DC stamped in the machined area on the front end. There is some type of casting # on the side where the lines connect in line with the front bail. It appears to be an upside down D1. This might be a mold number. Nothing on the bottom.

The "D" represents the old Danville, IL GM foundry where these master cylinders were cast. The "1" is likely a pattern number. Danville was a nodular/ductile/malleable cast iron foundry.

        Page,
Thank you for looking, and responding, just to be certain there is no date code cast into the housing just below the D1 (which is a mold#)? That is exactly what I am trying to determine, if original 67 masters up to Jan 1st of 67 had no cast date code, I am thinking they started the date coding then? Possibly earlier?

          Hi Bill & Joe
There is no casting date on the master cylinder. Only the #509 casting number and the mold number.

Thanks Joe for the info on the "D"
