Sill plate scratch repair

The sill plates on my 67 have some minor scratches. I can feel them with a finger nail. I found a company that will anodize them but they do not strip the existing anidizing or remove the scratches. Does anyone have any tips for doing this?

Randy, I have not removed anodized but I believe Paul's Chrome Plating will do it all.

Anodize removal

I recall that Caswell's plating supplies now offers a chemical stripper for anodize. Some sort of caustic solution. Also, I've read that heavy-duty oven cleaner (also lye based) works as well.

Of course, I learned all this after hand sanding my sidepipe covers so I could polish the ribs! That anodize is some HARD stuff...

If you go with Caswell's liquid, suggest getting a plastic tray used for wallpaper wetting -- long and skinny.

EASY-OFF oven cleaner will remove anodizing. Spray it on..... wait for about 20 minutes and use steel wool to remove. You'll probably need to repeat procedure a few times.

I tried the expensive stuff from Eastwood with no better success.... maybe a little worse.......

Who does the anodizing??? I have a few pieces that I'd like to get done.
