Re: Window stickers
Don't know why Chevy has not put the guy doing stickers out of business since the words Chevy Motor Div. appears on them unless they have approved it and are getting paid. As far as the stickers, I have seen them taken off 2 ways which worked well. 1. Wet paper towels with real hot water stick the towels up against the sticker-the heat will start to melt the glue to the point where it will start to come off going slowly. 2. The best I have used is to go and by a cheap heat gun, apply some heat and loosen one upper corner. Then just try applying heat and pulling slowly until it comes off. I have used this to take off decals of all types, just go slowly and keep the gun far enough back as too not burn the paper.

Re: Window stickers
The best method I used back in the 60's and 70's was using aerosol window spray and spraying the daylights all over the back of the sticker. Soaked the sticker and it peeled off perfect. Then I laid the sticker down on a towel and allowed it to dry. Worked every time. Save the Wave.>George- Top

Re: Window stickers
Yes, back in the 60's and 70's the first thing I thought about was saving the window sticker!!!!!!! Yeah, right!
A new car and all I was thinking about was gettin that thing on the road. The window sticker was scraped off in little wet balls in a hurry!
I have seen a couple of REAL window stickers in the last 40 years. Most of them have had the soak in tea treatment or oak leaf treatment. Just follow the Barrett-Jackson method of preparation.
Does anyone on this board understand the above??????

Reminds me of making old "pirate maps" when I was a kid.Yes, back in the 60's and 70's the first thing I thought about was saving the window sticker!!!!!!! Yeah, right!

Make the map, soak it in tea, and stick it in mom's oven for 10-15 minutes.
The first thing I did when I got a new car back in the day was to razor blade the sticker off and toss it in the trash. That included "special" cars, like the 65 GTO and 69 Camaro that I bought new.
I believe that many dealers would scrape them off as part of their new car delivery prep.

Re: Window stickers
The laminated repro window stickers really look nice as a display item on the car. As long as they are not used to misrepresent a car or validate a bogus car I don't have a problem with them. I bought one last year and it really looks nice. Unfortunately, as long as they are made available, like the phony aged tank stickers, they will be used to deceive.- Top

Re: Window stickers
My original was removed by the small town dealer I bought the car from and handed to me with my other paper work. I never thought to ask him how he did it. Then too, they weren't exactly very large back in 1963.
I too had it copied and reproduced, then laminated for attachment back on to the passenger window. It is a great conversation piece. Living in Florida, the only time I raise the side windows is when I am at shows or cruise-ins so I use them like sign boards. I have a brief car history on a sign on the driver's side window where I even mention my encounter with a 215 pound buck. I don't try to hide or B.S. anyone about my car. The only adder I will say about the sticker is that I have the original in my car book at home, and I didn't pay the $4,666.65 as listed on the sticker, rather $4,178.71 (incl. $121.71 WI state sales tax). I pride myself in that because dealers were marking up 63's back then as there was a waiting list. Even then, I ordered in April and didn't take delivery until August.

Re: Window stickers
One qualifier here to my previous post; I don't B.S. a real enthusiast, but I may exagerate some things when I talk to a "commando", specially about the cars performance. You meet all kinds at these shows, if you know what I mean.

Re: Window stickers
i was given the original 66 pass side door glass with semi-attached original widnow sticker by doc blatchley years ago. it was the white 66 425 roadster sold by Yenko chevy to grady davis. the car never saw the streets, just scca races till don sold it in 1969. Don gave me all the parts left over from his c-1 RPO, the grady davis 63 ZO6 tanker , the 66 425 white roadster and a few pieces off the 69 sbc roadster that replaced the 66. all these parts were in the attic of dons garage when i hauled them home in two pickup loads in 1977 or 78(there's an article in the Restorer on the gifting). anyway, the window sticker was glued on with what was a water soluble adhesive, hence no need to take mr razorblade to the dogfight. just soak with an aquous solution and it'll peel off without tears. The old 66 and its original window sticker were re-united a couple years ago and a good friend is about half way thru the resto of the old scca vet. mike- Top

Re: Window stickers
Thanks for the replies. Sounds like there may still be a few real stickers around, but I'd guess that anyone anal (er, I mean meticulous) enough to take the time and effort to remove it whole, might also have saved the other doumentation. I'll take that into account in the future.

Re: Window stickers
I have the original window sticker for my first new Corvette. A 1967 big block. The salesman a friend of mine gave it to me when I picked the car up. I dont know how it came off but it is all in one piece. I also have window stickers from several of my Fords, a 1959 352 overdrive and a 61 375 hp 390 over drive. I have some more in the safe but I dont remember what they are. I mailed a copy of the 67 big block sticker to some one in NCRS. Dale- Top
