      The Wisconsin State Patrol had red and white 61 pursuit Dodges while their normals were Dark Blue and White (lt. Gray) Chevies and Fords. Thing I always remember were their "Gumballs" on top and the mechanical sirens (like Barney Fife). We once lifted a "inside" gumball from an unmarked squad while the dude was in getting coffee. That was a prize!

          Bill enjoyed reading about your experience with Eiler. There is at least one more greeter in the US. I do not know his name but he has a corner parking spot where he sits in his wheelchair at University and Highland (US HIWAY 45) both 4 lane roads and people honk and he waves. He did have some shade from trees on this corner. He lives in an area just away from the corner locaton that has single level ajoined apartments for senior citizens. The tornado of FEB 5, 2008 did a lot of distruction to the apartments, not severely damaged or leveled, and his waving spot trees were damaged.
          The construction people built "the waver" a nice covered area for him to resume his daily waving to the public and be protected from the sun and rain.

            Great Story Bill,

            I remember the "greeter" in Laguna. I was 4 or 5 when I first saw him and he waved to my mom, sister, and I. It was in '72 I think. I think we had just eaten at the Jolly Roger on our way to the Sawdust Festival. I only wish it was in a vette! It was a lot quieter along the PCH between CDM (where we lived) and Laguna back then. I still remember the smell you describe from the trees - truly special.

            I look forward to the next chapter.

              Rob,

              Sawdust started in '66 after I was transfered to Atlanta (with the Vette). BUT you will not believe that the next story is actually about CDM. Small world...and thanks for the kind words ! In a way, I think you have to have lived there to fully understand....but young.

                Bill,

                Can't wait to read it. My grandparents bought a house on Iris (a couple of houses back from Big Corona) in the early 50's and we live on Jasmine just east of PCH. It was a great place to spend my youth. I remember seeing great cars all the time driving the 101 - vettes included.

                  Rob;

                  Iris and Jasmine. Streets in old Corona arranged almost alphabetically with names of flowers and trees...yours a block apart.
                  And the Five Crowns Restaurant...so long ago.
                  Only the bluffs, the stairs down to the beach, fires at night in the sand and all the fun down there with your surfer girl is referenced in Chapter #9
                  You'll still like it.
