    FI Air filter paint coverage

While studying the 63/64 tech manual in the part about FI air cleaner units on the included pictures it seems like of the early and late design filter unit the inside of the FI air cleaner lock handles were not covered by paint. Is this typical and should these only be painted from the outside? (e.g. was the unit orginally painted put together with the lid or as seperate parts)?

    thanks,
    Rob

Hi Rob, the air filter and it's elbow to the air meter were fully painted on the outside by AC Delco, inside left raw, I think you're just seeing dust in the pictures in the JG, not unpainted areas. Also pay close attention to the decal on the original air cleaner, most 'repro' ones do not look anything like it. The 'SERVICE INSTRUCTIONS' line is a give away, the font size and paragraph indentations are off too on the repros. The paint was a gloss black except the 'S' tube which I believe was dip painted at St Louis, not by AC.
