    When We Were Young With Our Corvettes - Chapter # 9

    In 1963 (stories not in chronological order) I was hanging on to my bachelorhood by a thread. My roomie had moved-in with the one he would eventually marry so I had been carrying the Belmont Shore place near the beach alone. Another friend, Gary Lindboe, a Marine Lieutenant stationed at Pendleton asked me to stay with him and split the costs.

    Great story! Made me laugh out loud.

    Was the Quiet Woman open in '63? It was on 101 across from the Port Theater. I remember it having a logo that looked like the St. Paulie beer girl, just missing her head. My parents went there for drinks sometimes. And, a couple of doors down from that was a classic garage/mechanic who had the occasional vette in there for to drool over! That was where I first saw a '54 or '55. It was black and beautiful.

      Rob;

      WOW! Haven't thought of the QW forever. It didn't open until 1965 but was, even though small, an instant hit. Their logo was actually taken from a story about a 15th century Englishwoman whose parents cut off her head to keep her from marrying her true love....she shows up at the alter with her head under arm, hence the headless...and determined...lady. I was there (with my wife) several times before transferring to Atlanta that same year. It became a huge Cougar den.

      The place to "play" in '61-'63 was the Sandpiper...ask your folks about that place.(on second thought, better not)

      Glad you enjoyed it.

        Bill, if these episodes were on the last page of Corvette Enthusiast or Corvette Magazine, I'm convinced their circulation would skyrocket.

        Thanks, again.
