    Re: Thinking SPRING

    Perspective is a funny thing. Like your subject line, I've frequently read where people say how they can't wait for the winter to end so they can drive their cars. But down here in south Louisiana, our "winter" is my favorite time to drive my cars. It's crisp, cool, and bug-free, yet it rarely gets below freezing. Spring is nice too, but summer is when I STOP driving my cars, because the heat is brutal and the bugs make for a bitch of a clean-up.

      Pat,

      You're absolutely right about perspective...

      This past weekend here in Ottawa was pretty much like your winter description, with one exception: it was 'crisp', definitely cool and bug free, but about that below freezing part, it was -21 Celsius...

          Here in the Northeast, just going out to the garage and puling the cover back a little gives me enough hope that spring will be here soorner than we think. It'a already starting to stay lighter a few minutes longer each day.

            Pat;

            I'm with you, being as how we're here in Orlando. Trouble is, you have a dilema; you want to drive your Vette during the cool season, but this is also the time you want to do your major projects - you know, the kind you want to do without sweating your cadoolies off (or is it kadoolies). Otherwise, like us, you probably do your work during the cooler morning hours during the summer. Also, along about noon, the monsoon like rains move in when the two sea breezes collide right over Central Florida. We have the bugs too, "Love bugs"! During those swarmings I have to spend the first hour at our cruise-in cleaning the bugs off.

              Wow Grant, -21C? Yeah, that's pretty crisp. That sounds like it's not only bug-free, but life-free!

              Stu - sure sounds like we have similar environments. We get love bugs, too, twice a year (early fall, early spring). They're so bad I just avoid driving then.
              And we get the daily Summer "popcorn showers", also. That's another reason I love the days right after a clear cold front, since I never have to worry about getting rained on!

                    Saturday pre-dawn was a crisp ~45 degrees at Donut Derelicts in Huntington Beach, CA. That didn't stop the ~250 cars from showing up by 7 am.

                      Somehow during the Winter when I pull the cover back a little bit, the car seems redder and shinier than during the Summer.

                        I drove my Corvette last Friday when we had 76 degrees and sunny here in the D-FW area. I swear I didn't see another Corvette on the road the entire hour I drove the freeways and it was during rush hour traffic. Sad. But I thoroughly enjoyed driving it with the top down in January.
                        I have resided in Texas all my life but in the '80s my parents lived in New Orleans for 15 years near Lake Pontchartrain. Loved visiting Louisiana particularly driving the less traveled routes. The summer heat and humidity is withering there though and because there is so much standing water there are bugs a-plenty making driving less enjoyable.

                          Yep, those are the numbers. Coldest I ever was in was -36 F in the UP of Michigan. The warmest it was for 10 days was -25. I spent the longest year of my life up there, but both weeks of summer were very nice.

                          BTW: Last week the interior of Alaska was a -70* F -- NOT wind chill, that was the real temperature. Even Anchorage was colder than -40* I have a non-Corvette friend who moved up there at the end of summer.

                            I thought I was done for the season. The weather folks called for a big storm Saturday in the Northeast, starting about noon. I got up early called some friends and we pulled off the covers and went for a cool crisp drive by the ocean. Got it home before the snow and now it is really in bed and covered until spring.... Allan, I pull the cover back too and

                            The wife thinks I spend too much time in the garage with the engine running and the door closed! Ken
