How to shine up 88 valve covers

I have tried polishes, spic and pan , rubbing alcohol, and elbow grease. cannot get water marks off valve covers. Do you think a buffing with a rotary pad and a 1/4 inch drill will do or do I need some kind of paste etc. etc. Looks grungy.

Don I recall that they are about the same finish that was on my wifes 85. The finish was never had a shine they were rather dull. The only way I know of was
    1. Some the catalog people sell a paint to refinish the covers
    2. Buy new valve covers or used in better condition (hard to do)
If you are going to have the car judged do not paint the covers good judges will pick that up. If your not for the cost of new ones (if you can find them) is very high I would just buy the paint. Once the covers are stained I know of no product that can remove the stain. Paul 18046
