C1 axel identification posi vs non posi

I'm have what I think are two axles for a 61 Corvette. I noticed the one has a longer "collar" protruding on the Axel from the bearing area, than the other. Is it correct that the one with the longer collar is correct for posi application and the one with the shorter collar is for non posi applications? Jerry

ps I would attach a photo but it tells me I have to resize the photo and I don't know how to do that. All help is appreciated

    Jerry,
The 58-62 Vette axles are the same (posi or not).
They ARE L&R, with the left being shorter.
From where the bearing seats on the axle, out the the wheel flange, THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE!

Your description of the "collar"(???) makes me wonder if maybe one of your axles is a 59-64 pass car axle. The 59-64 pass car axles are a 100% fit into a Corvette axle housing. The difference between the Vette and (59-64) pass car axles is that the distance from the bearing seat to the wheel flange is approximately 1/2in LONGER for the pass car axles.
So, if you removed the 61 Vette axles, and replaced them with 59-64 pass car axles, you would increase the rear tire tread width approximately 1in. Of course, this would also push the brake drum outward about 1/2in on each side.
    Here's a comparrison.
    Hope this helps.

OK, I think I've attached a photo. From the inner(inside) face of the bearing to the end of the axle measures 27 3/16 inches on the left axle and 27 1/16 on the right axle. The bearing thickness on the left axle is .900" and on the right 1.000 inches. The thickness of the collar on the left one is .625" and on the right .425". As you can see both have the single O-ring seal. Jerry

PS I think I've learned how to compress a photo. Yippee
