    C3 - 1971 - Front Bumper - Cost to rechrome?

What can I expect to pay to rechrome my front bumper on my 71? I just want a ball park figure.

    Thanks.

It will vary with who does the work, how much work there is to do and the quality of the work done. In general, I've seen front Shark bumper jobs range in price from $135 to $550. Various considerations include:

    (1) Does the bumper need straightening/truing & how much?

    (2) Are there 'rot' sections or crash work 'split' sections to repair?

    (3) How much pit is there on the existing part to polish out and/or fill prior to plating?

    (4) How thick will the plater lay down his copper, nickle & chrome layers + how well will he polish out the work between plating layers?

    (5) Will he do a 'quick & dirty' job (essentially chrome only the front side & shoot the back with silver paint) or take the Top Drawer approach and thoroughly plate both sides of the bumper leaving the backside un-polished after final plate?

Bottom line, you drive the cost of the job based on what you give the plater to start with, how 'hungry' a given plating shop is for work, and how 'picky' you are regarding the quality of the work product you insist on getting. So, it helps to shop around and ask specific questions as you collect price quotes...

      Hi Greg,
Jack's reply has a lot of the important information.
I had my front bumper re-plated at Librandi's near Harrisburg, Pa. They charged $175. The bumper was in pretty good condition and turned out beautifully. They charged $90 for each of the bumper guards. This was a couple of years ago, and I'm not sure how well they've been able to hold their prices.
      Regards,
      Alan
