    Engine Rebuild Need Help

Im having my 427 rebuilt by a local guy with a very good reputation on Corvettes and Chevelles. I need to know what I should be making sure he does besides the obvious. Im familiar with engines and have rebuilt a few, but as you can imagine this one has to be right. Its a 1969 427/400. I want to go completely stock. Not sure if it has been rebuilt before but with 107,000 miles Im sure it has. Looking for some things I can point out to him and make sure they get done. Ive already threatened him with bodily injury if he decks the block . I should be taking it to him next week. Some background on him: He lives 3 miles away, and his kids and my kids go to school together, for what thats worth. He has a 64 Corvette with some God Awful amount of H.P.hes rebuilding that looks great. Any help would be apppreciated.

    Re: Engine Rebuild Need Help

If you want more "power" have the heads massaged. This has been discussed a zillion times. Check the archives for pocket porting.

Use ONLY OE REPLACEMENT PARTS FROM NAME BRAND VENDORS LIKE SEALED POWER. NO HOT ROD PARTS!!! This has been discussed a zillion times, too.

Use the '71 up production dual valve spring kit discussed in a nearby thread.

Target a true CR of 10:1 - also dicussed a zillion times on how to make all the measurements and manage the CR.

What valve guide rebuilding choices does he offer?

Do your due diligence and manage the mechanic properly and you should have an excellent result, but keep in mind that most of these guys fill up engines with a bunch of hot rod parts, and the result of this is usually not very good.
