    Display rope-off

Has anyone ever made stands for a rope-off area for your car at an outdoor car show? Something like plastic rope chain and stands of some sort that won't blow-over or knock over easily!

The best I have seen use metal plates under the tires with a a pipe coming up and out at each corner with plastic chain attached.

There are companies that sell the stands and items for the display you are talking about. Like Lyle said, make sure the stands are supported by the metal plates under the tires or you will have more damage to the car from the display stands than by onlookers. I've seen these stands come down and dent cars before. If you've ever been in a line for the bank, you can see how these get stands get tossled around.

Good advice on stands, but do not bring the to NCRS Regional or National events. They are not allowed on judged cars

Just food for thought. If you're that worried about the car, maybe don't bring it to that particular show.

I just think of shows here in Minneapolis, and there are ones I would ABSOLUTELY bring the car to and ones where I would NEVER bring the car to. The good ones are Corvettes only (usually), and the bad ones are the HUGE events that bring in all kinds of fun cars.

I welded an 1 1/2 pipe coupling to an old cultivator disk obtained from a steel recycling center.

I used 1 1/2 PVC for the upright with a male adapter on the bottom that threads into the coupling. The top of the pipe has holes drilled through it to string nylon rope. I painted it with Argent silver.

Yes, you just never know what to expect. The worst show I was ever in was at a small affluent town where you'd think the people would have enough class to respect your property. Just the opposite was true. The spoiled brat kids ride their bikes up next to your car as well as the Women with their baby strollers, and the Men and the teenagers lay all over your car. They would probably get into it and sit down if you didn't lock it, something like what you would see at an auto show or dealer's showroom.

At shows, the ones I feel worst for are the old cars that have painted running boards. Non-car people think nothing of putting their kids up on the running boards to look into the car, scratching the paint with their shoes on the way up.
