Re: How many 63 Z06s left to find?

Clem, you ALWAYS have great history and knowledge to share. I have never owned a Z0-6, but have worked on a few over the years. Thanks for the update

Ah Jimmy........we need to sit around the 'old campfire' and kick the stories around. Are you at Florida Regional this weekend? Are you coming West for San Jose National ?

It seems like Vito wants more stories for the membership from people like you and me about these rare models of Corvettes.

Re: One more in Illinois 63 Z06s left to find

Know of one other old race car here in my area. The little old lady has been told not to sell because the corvette has great value. We know the guy who raced the car for her many years ago. He is in the will. She is 88 years old. it's a tanker.

It appears Jim that the air cleaner on the burnt Z06 is the earlier style. It never ceases to amaze me how many Z06 units I restore and have restored. Where do they all come from? I vast majority appear to be the real deal also. Only a couple were suspicious. JohnD

Don't know the previous history before her husband died and a local picture taker drove the car in Midwest Council races. Car is all there and sits in a garage. We do know the car did come from Nicky nouse.

back then people bought them to autocross and do track days because most corvette clubs did both. there were several in CCWP that where daily drivers during the week and used at autocrosses and track days on the weekends. me i could not afford the extra cost of the FI as that would have put me over my allowance from mrs clem

So Clem can you remember the names of these Z06 owners in Pittsburgh? Course we didn't call them that in the old days. So lets say it the old way. Who were the guys with the big tanks. Do you remember the MD in Latrobe that drove a 63 or 64 tanker all the time? It was a carb car and definitely not FI. The Doc lived on Welton Street in Latrobe, PA. He was an elderly fellow with grey hair and very thin. That's all I know. I have wondered about that carb tanker for many years. I am not sure which dealer he bought it from in our area. JD

i have no idea who that doctor would be. most of the ones i remember did not have the big tank because the people who drove them every day wanted the space behind the seats and they were not running endurance races

We believe, some of these cars may have been constructed.

Also of the 12 or so CONVERTIBLE Z0-6's made, and no one knows for sure, ONLY one (1) has been authenicated. And that car, a black with Saddle leather, was found in 2005 and displayed at the 2006 Park City, Utah NCRS National Convention. It only had 7540 original miles on it.
Wow, 12 convertibles? I never knew there were that many.

Also, very surprising that almost 90 of the original small tank Z06s are still unaccounted for........

Took pics in Denver CO, summer 1988. Everybody was interested in the wheels, not the car.

I also saw this car in Denver in 1988. I was there with my girlfriend (now wife). Seems I recall that the car was originally black on tan and the asking price was $8000. Supposedly caught fire while in stoarge.

I saw somewhere on a previous post that it was thought that this car was restored and located in the Seattle area.
