Loren, the sale is in fact legit. The buyer is friends with a buddy of mine who said that he has wanted the car for a long time.

Tom, the Z06 sold for 1,050,000. I was not at the show but heard that the black L88 was very suspect. I don't know what it bid to.

Wow $8 was a bargain, but $35 is still a great price 35yrs later. I agree the info and friendships made through the hobby is priceless.

I know you didn't post this to get a response, but your assertion about geting more than you contributed is simply not true. Carter P. once expressed an opinion that a member whose # exceeded 5XXX simply did not know enough about how this club survived. Probably not totally true, but enough correctness to make people stop and think. Early on there were members that literally paid for the printings of some publications, I am told.
In your case, every time you attend a chapter, Regional or National meet you probably "KILL" more rumors/stories that are negative or wrong than can be imagined.
Then again, the story that Bill Sangrey and Dave Stewart sent you out as a trial - "Let's get the Doc to join; if he actually gets a magazine, then we'll join." - does have a certain ring-of-truth to it......... No wonder the wife saves those cancelled checks.
