    Gas Pedal For 63

In reviewing the JM regarding the gas pedal is state the outside groove are square off not tapered. The re-pop I have found have the two outside edges tapered and they have a rubberize coating on them. Does have know if the original gas pedal had a rubberize coat or were they hard plastic finish. Any advise or picture regarding this subject would be very appreciated. Thanks Jeff

Jeffrey, Try and find an original accel pedal. Some of the repros are incorrect. I like to use the some word in case someone out there makes a real deal.
A typical repro is incorrect. Also some of them just won't flex. Will cause your carb or FI to run on fast idle. The configuration of the repro and original is not the same. If you see a NOS one advertised on ebay be carerful as typically you can't tell from the pics. If you buy it you will find out it's from a truck and is super ugly. Been there. JD

Do you know if the pedal is made of plastic of metal with a rubberized costing on it. I was told that there is a anti squeek device on the back top of the pedal. Is this true? Do you have a picture of what I should be looking at.

        Jeffrey -

The pedal is a steel stamping with rubber molded over it, and has a recess on the back side for a square piece of white plastic where the end of the accelerator rod contacts it.

I tried three different reproduction pedals, from different suppliers, and none of them had free "hinge" action; finally found one properly-made with hinge action just like the original, from Willcox Corvette (Ernie Fry). The top end of the outboard grooves are tapered instead of squared-off, but the pedal works as intended.

Here some pics of E64 original pedal. You have to look close at the ribs since it's not a macro shot. Maybe try clicking on the picture a second time after you enlarge the thumnail.

            John and Jim

thank you very much for the info. I will call Wilcoxs corvette and see if they can help me out. The current one on my car is a replacement style and the two outside grooves are 45 angle at the top. I am planning to go to Regional this year with my 63 I am trying to make it as correct as possible to pull off a top flight. It been a interesting journey.

Thanks again for all your help - Jeff
