Re: 66 transistorized ignition hard warm start

go over to tispecialty.com and select the "Articles" you will get a lot of voltage numbers and other hints and a diagram which shows that the pink does not go starter, physically.

The statement about the pink wire not on the started confused me since my 64 does not have such a colored wire at the starter. That wire is cut in above to the stock harness so the pink is not seen below. (But 64 is a little different from 66)

Now you may not mean the pink was located at the starter, but spliced to another wire which goes to the starter (see how this can get confusing).

[quote=Gary Walsh (34630);393672]Ken: I think you are on the right track. The cranking speed is slower when warm. I am thinking the TI system isn't wired correctly. Isn't there supposed to be a wire running to the starter?

Gary, It's wired correctly or it would not start and run when cold. Big bolcks are notorious for hard starting when at hot soak with a weak TI system. If the starter won't spin the distributor fast enough, then there is no signal to the amp to trigger the coil. The pickup coil in the distributor can have age issues such as a frayed set of wires due to vacuum advance can movement, weak or cracked magnet due to being 40 years old, or a short in the pickup coil= less resistance & less volts. Use the 67 service manual and a DIGITAL ohmeter and check out the system.
With the right components, a GM TI system will beat any system on the market (I bet I get a LOT of agreement on this statement).

Thanks, I have been checking out TI Specialties website. It has a lot of info.

Another site which has LOTs of information and history is:

First-Generation Camaro Research and Restoration Data

Even though it is Camaro oriented, still has lots of info on the principles of the transistorized system. Dave Fiedler is one of the contributors to the articles.
