Alger, I will try to get you some better pictures tomorrow of the whole cap, inside and outside.

          Re: 75 Gas Cap Description

Thanks Gary. Your pics told me what I needed to know...My cap is not for a Corvette. It looks the same from the top but the sides of the metal cap are entirely different and the inside of the plastic body are also different. Looks like I am in the market for a 75 Cap. I appreciate yours and everybody else's input.

Alger, keep in mind that there could have been many different suppliers of gas caps during the '75 run. They were considerably different from the '74 and prior years, so anything is possible. Maybe Joe Lucia can chime in. All is not lost yet!!

Garry, The photo is one of the three caps I have. It is an NOS cap I picked up for $1.99. It is identical to the old one on my 75. thinking I was getting a steal on a NOS Corvette cap, I bought a second one for $1.99. Now I find out based on the forum pics that my original must be from something else as well as the two NOS caps I paid $3.98 for

The Dole-branded cap in Alger's photo does not look like an original type cap to me. However, the first cap (the "599 0308") in the string of photo attachments Alger posted earlier could very well be an original cap. As I mentioned previously, I believe there were several different caps likely used for 1975---at least two or three. They likely differed in minor ways.

The three different caps I had pictured above are all identical from the side. Basically a flat side with "indents" for gripping as opposed to ripple bumps. Anyone have a 75 cap for sale?

Here is a cap I purchased at Carlisle for our '75. Someone painted it silver, but I would like to restore it someday.

I believe this is an original 1975 gas cap. Perhaps not the only one used for 1975 but certainly one of the caps used.

What's the period of usage for the 559346 cap? 77-79? Someone on ebay paid I believe $126 for a not very nice one.

The GM# 559346 was used in PRODUCTION from 1978 through 1981. However, I don't know that it was the cap used EXCLUSIVELY during these years. Others may also have been used.
